The UW Health Sustainability Celebration will be co-hosted by the University of Wisconsin Department of Pediatrics, Healthy Climate Wisconsin, and UW Health Sustainability Program. This event will highlight the incredible climate and health initiatives, programs, and research that are being done at UW Health to positively impact the worldwide climate crisis. The goal is to inspire faculty, staff, residents and medical students to become involved in this important work.
This two-day celebration will start on Wednesday, October 30 at 3 p.m. in HSLC 1345 with a UW Health Sustainability Summit, where leaders in environmental sustainability will speak. Speakers include: Jeff Thompson, MD, former CEO of Gundersen Health System and recognized sustainability thought leader; Karin Zuegge, MD, UW Health medical director of sustainability; Jonathan Patz, MD, MPH, Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor and the John P. Holton Endowed Chair of Health and the Environment at the University of Wisconsin–Madison; and Claire Gervais, MD, co-founder of Healthy Climate Wisconsin. A poster session and reception will held in the HSLC atrium at 3:45 p.m. and run until 5:30 p.m. Light hors d’oeuvres and refreshments will be served.
On Thursday, October 31 from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in HSLC 1335 and via zoom, Dr. Jeff Thompson will present Pediatrics Grand Rounds, “Rising up to Our Responsibility to Connect Health, Healthcare, and Our Environment.” A light breakfast will be served, and we encourage those who can to attend in person.
