Phase 2 medical students rotate through Pediatrics on the Specialized Care of Obstetric, Gynecologic, and Pediatric Patients (SCOPE) block of the ForWard curriculum, which is centered on providing health care across the lifespan.
This 12-week block emphasizes care of vulnerable populations as identified in women’s and children’s health, and skills related to work with caregivers in addition to the patients themselves. Pediatrics-specific clinical experiences occur in pediatric primary care, newborn nursery, inpatient wards, and subspecialty clinic settings.
All students complete an integrated patient-centered experience where they participate in caring for a mother-child dyad around the time of delivery.
