Dr. James Conway – Global Children’s Health Advocacy in DC

James Conway, MD, was one of several pediatric physicians and advocates who met with Congressional staffers of members on the Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations last week on behalf of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Congress has reached a budget deal which requires cutting $15 billion in non-discretionary spending. Their meetings focused on ensuring that the budget cuts that need to be made do not come at the expense of global investments in maternal and child health or immunization programs. Congressional offices consistently expressed support for USAID investments in maternal and child health, CDC immunization programs, and U.S. support for GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance.
