Daniel Jackson, MD, was awarded $50,000 from the UW Institute for Clinical & Translational Research (ICTR) for his 1-year pilot grant, “Epithelial Cell Allergy – Virus Interactions in Asthma.” Allergic sensitization has been associated with increased severity of viral respiratory illnesses and hospitalization in children with asthma. This project aims to identify the mechanism(s) of allergy-virus interactions underlying these clinical observations focused on impairment of antiviral responses in airway epithelial cells.
