Christine Seroogy, MD, professor, was recently named the inaugural E. Richard Stiehm Endowed Chair in Pediatric Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology. This professorship supports the scholarly pursuits of a member of the department’s Division of Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology. The endowed faculty position was funded through a gift by E. Richard Stiehm, MD, a retired pediatrician and former member of the UW Department of Pediatrics. Stiehm and his family have deep roots in Madison and at the UW.
Seroogy’s research focuses on the relationship between environmental factors and the maturation of the immune system and its relationship to allergic diseases. She has built strong connections with the Wisconsin Amish and Old Order Mennonite (aka Plain) communities to improve health care delivery to this underserved population. Additionally, she has played a key role in the success of large cohort studies.
Seroogy was recognized on June 26 during the third annual SMPH Faculty Investiture Celebration. The annual event recognizes faculty members who are honored with an endowed professorship, chairship, or fellowship. Supported through philanthropy, an endowed faculty position is the highest honor the school can bestow on its faculty members.
This year’s event celebrated 17 faculty honorees and recognized the outstanding individuals who make their pioneering work possible through generous faculty support gifts. The event is part of Wisconsin Medicine, the philanthropic partnership between UW Health and UW School of Medicine and Public Health.
