C-DART training grant supporting childhood diabetes and adiposity research renewed for five years

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) recently approved the renewal of the “Childhood Diabetes and Adiposity Research Training Program (C-DART)” T32 training grant. The five-year, $935,233 award, funding years 16–20 of this ongoing training program administered by the Department of Pediatrics, will support the stipends of two fellows annually. HuiChuan Lai, PhD, RD (left), professor of nutritional sciences in the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, and Scott Reeder, MD, PhD (right), professor in the Department of Radiology, will serve as multi-principal investigators and co-program directors. David Allen, MD, professor and chief, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetes, serves as an associate program director of the C-DART program. The mission of the C-DART program is to train post-doctoral MD physician-scientists for productive academic careers in clinical and basic research in prevention and treatment of insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and other metabolic complications of obesity and excess visceral and hepatic fat deposition in children. The start date of the renewal was July 18, 2025.
