My time at University of Wisconsin has been an incredible gift over the last three years. During my interview day, I was so excited to hear the genuine enthusiasm for supporting residents interested in primary care. I can confidently say that interest has been not only been celebrated and fostered, but I also feel exceptionally well-supported and prepared for a career as a pediatrician. The model of working with the same preceptor and clinic location all three years with weekly clinic has provided true patient continuity and an invaluable, life-long mentor and friend in my preceptor. The investment in residents transcends just these formal mentor relationships, as the theme within our program is a genuine passion for investing in residents as physicians and people. I feel known by name by physicians and other members of our healthcare team across the hospital, and our attendings and fellows could not be more supportive of our learning goals and personal development. Our community models the ideal collaborative working environment, and I know our attendings’ example and the relationships with my co-residents have shaped my high expectations of the type of place I wish to work in the future. I have been surprised by the wide breadth of conditions we see at our facility and also how much joy we still find at work even on busy days. Not only are we well-trained with great exposure to all specialities, but Madison has been such a delightful place to live during residency, especially as someone who had never been to Wisconsin before! I can’t say enough positive things about UW, and I feel honored to be staying for a chief year with this fantastic program!
