Professional Activities

Dr. Amy Hanson is assistant professor (CHS) in the Division of Critical Care. Her primary interests include clinical care, clinical research, quality improvement work, and education. In 2020, she was honored as the Indiana University Intern Teacher of the Year. In 2021, she was recognized with the Outstanding Resident Award, and in 2022 was selected to be the residency commencement speaker. Hanson was also the 6th annual Indiana University Pediatric Quality Improvement Competition winner in 2024 for her work in communication equity for limited English proficiency (LEP) families in the Riley Children’s Hospital PICU.

Clinical Interests

Hanson practices pediatric critical care and cardiac critical care medicine, with special interests in ICU patients requiring dialysis and the limited English proficiency (LEP) population.

Research Interests

Hanson is the University of Wisconsin site principal investigator for the Worldwide Exploration of Renal Replacement Outcomes Collaborative in Kidney Disease (WE-ROCK), an international collaborative of pediatric subspecialists whose mission is to improve short- and long-term outcomes of children requiring continuous renal replacement therapy CRRT. She also enjoys investigating social drivers of health and their role in the presentation and management of ICU patients both via clinical research and quality improvement work.
