Professional Activities

Dr. Hannah Wakefield is assistant professor (CHS) in the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and a general pediatrician who works in the outpatient setting. Wakefield was a National Health Service Corps Scholar, which provided her with the opportunity to work in Federally Qualified Health Centers after completing pediatrics residency. She has a passion for working with the medically underserved and has helped care for families from rural and immigrant backgrounds.

Clinical Interests

Wakefield cares for patients and families with myriad conditions ranging from newborn care and breastfeeding to acute illnesses and managing chronic conditions like asthma and eczema. Her experience includes helping patients and families manage ADHD and navigate school accommodations as well as caring for children with autism who have aggressive behaviors. Her multidisciplinary nature finds her working with specialists to help care for children with complex medical needs like Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, feeding tubes, and congenital heart disease.

Research Interests

With a background in epidemiology, Wakefield enjoys learning how systems work and finding ways to improve them. She has engaged in quality improvement initiatives such as ensuring residents are using evidence-based medicine to care for children with obesity, improving the evaluation and management of pediatric hypertension, and improving vision screening practices in the outpatient clinic. She also has emerging interests in advancing medical student and resident education and improving the access to and quality of outpatient pediatric care.
