Professional Activities

Dr. Alex Burford is assistant professor (CHS) in the Divisions of Critical Care and Child Protection. He hopes to join and support the community of workers in Wisconsin that addresses both preventing child maltreatment and improving the outcomes of children experiencing maltreatment. Burford is eager to collaborate with individuals across all careers and colleges to improve the health of children experiencing maltreatment.

Clinical Interests

Burford practices pediatric critical care medicine and child abuse pediatrics. He is interested in improving outcomes for children who experience abusive head trauma.

Research Interests

Burford’s main academic focus is the improvement of outcomes for abusive head trauma patients. This involves looking for modifiable risk and protective factors across the continuum of care from hospital admission to life after discharge. He hopes to conduct research that can be translated to health systems or health policy change in the state of Wisconsin.
