Philip Farrell, MD, PhD, was awarded an American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009 supplement of $99,810 from the National Institutes of Health. This addition to his current project, “Pulmonary Benefits of Cystic Fibrosis Neonatal Screening,” will allow Dr. Farrell to accelerate his original aims and accomplish the remaining objectives. The hypothesis of this project is that progressive lung disease in children is more attributable to extrinsic factors than to age of diagnosis but that newborn screening will provide an opportunity to modify the risk factor effects.
