Michael Wilhelm, MD, has been named as one of the 2011 Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) KL2 scholars. This award provides for 75% protected research time + $25,000/year to support his research. Dr. Wilhelm’s project, “Regulation of Dendritic APP translation by the JNK Pathway in Fragile X Syndrome,” focuses on the role that the c-Jun N-terminal kinase pathway regulates protein translation locally in dendrites in response to neuronal activity. This process is dysregulated in Fragile X Syndrome, and the JNK pathway may provide novel therapeutic targets in this common inherited cause of mental retardation.
