Division Highlights - Neurodevelopmental-Behavioral Pediatrics

The Division of Neurodevelopmental-Behavioral Pediatrics provides diagnosis and clinical care for infants and children who have, or are at risk for, neurodevelopmental or developmental-behavioral problems.

Our faculty see patients at the UW Health East Clinic, and at the following Waisman Center clinics: Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic, Newborn Follow-Up Clinic, Feeding Team, Down Syndrome Clinic, and the Neuromotor Development Clinic.

Division faculty also provide education on neurodevelopmental disabilities through invited presentations, postgraduate programs at UW-Madison and rotations for second-year pediatric residents and neonatal fellows.

2014 Highlights

  • Ongoing, intensive efforts to increase access to the Autism and Developmental Disabilities Clinic and other Waisman Center clinics resulted in an overall 22% increase in Waisman Center clinic visits.
  • The division now has funding support to provide a broad range of treatment services for children, adolescents, and young adults with autism-spectrum disorders.
  • Division faculty and the American Family Children’s Hospital NICU team developed a partnership around transition of care for NICU graduates in the Newborn Follow-Up Clinic, and are planning to expand the clinic to provide additional access for this patient population.
  • The division served an increasing number of learners, including medical students, residents, fellows, and Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) trainees. In addition, Wendy Coleman, MD, developed a new partnership to teach pharmacy students.
  • Christina Iyama-Kurtycz, MD, director of the developmental-behavioral rotation for pediatrics residents, obtained a teaching master’s certification.
