  • The AFCH pediatric heart program continued to grow substantially last year. Pediatric cardiac surgery expansion—including complex procedures to repair such congenital conditions as a bicuspid aortic valve and coarctation of the aorta and tetralogy of Fallot—has had a ripple effect on our pediatric cardiology and critical care divisions
  • The department began plans to create a clinic and care delivery program for medically complex, fragile patients. This program aims to better coordinate the care of these patients while minimizing their hospital admissions or clinic visits through other means of care delivery, such as phone calls, home visits, or telehealth.
  • In 2013, U.S. News and World Report ranked American Family Children’s Hospital among the top 50 pediatric hospitals in six specialties: cancer, diabetes/endocrinology, gastroenterology, nephrology, orthopedics and pulmonology.
  • The department is partnering with University Health Services to provide an adolescent medicine-trained specialist (Paula Cody, MD). This collaboration enhances the services UHS can provide, and provides learners with an in-depth rotation on the clinical concerns of adolescents and young adults.
