Division Highlights - Pulmonology & Cystic Fibrosis

The Division of Pediatric Pulmonology provides family-centered care for children with respiratory disorders, including asthma, cystic fibrosis, and chronic lung disease.

Research efforts aim to improve the health of children with lung diseases.

2011 Highlights

  • Philip Farrell, MD, PhD, and Michael J. Rock, MD, received $153,944 from the Legacy of Angels Foundation for their project, “Quality Improvement in Cystic Fibrosis Newborn Screening—Addressing the Sweat Test QNS Problem with a Novel Method.”
  • Chris Green, MD, was named the interim senior vice president for medical affairs at UW Hospital and Clinics.
  • Theresa Guilbert, MD, MS, had a successful year generating funding as a PI or co-PI in her research efforts, as demonstrated by new grants from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services and the Wisconsin Partnership Program.
  • D.B. Sanders, MD, MS, received a three-year, $260,000 Harry Shwachman Clinical Investigator Award from Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Therapeutics, Inc., for his project, "Determinants of Lung Health in Children with CF.”
  • Mary Schroth, MD, developed a national reputation for her work with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) patients. In 2011, she gave 13 invited presentations on SMA-related topics in 7 cities nationwide.
