SUMMARY:Pediatrics Grand Rounds- Lauren Mutrie\, MD\, MSc & Ladawna Gieves\, MD
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, April 30\, 2026 \nTime: 7:30-8:30 a.m. CT via Zoom \nZoom Link \nTitle: Medical-Legal Partnership in Academic Pediatric Health Centers: Laying the Groundwork for Impactful Collaboration \nSession Overview: \nUnmet legal needs harm health outcomes\, limit access to care\, and drive health disparities and inequities for low-income pediatric populations. Medical-legal partnerships (MLPs) are collaborative care models designed to partner lawyers with front-line healthcare workers to meaningfully address root-causes behind these interwoven issues. In this lecture\, we will introduce our inter-professional audience to the MLP model and summarize the evidence base for MLP in pediatric medicine. We will share our own implementation journey with a perinatal MLP in Oregon\, review case narratives\, and hopefully inspire MLP development at University of Wisconsin-Madison.\nSpeakers: Lauren Hall Mutrie\, MD\, MSc\, associate professor of Pediatrics\, Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine\, co-director of Doernbecher Medical-Legal Partnership\, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital \n \n  \nLadawna Gievers\, MD\, associate professor of Pediatrics\, Division of Neonatology\, School of Medicine\, OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital \n  \n \nPlease text the 6-letter code provided in the livestream lecture to 608-260-7097 for CME credit. \n\nSeries Overview: Pediatric Grand Rounds is a weekly multidisciplinary and interprofessional conference designed to improve a participant’s ability to practice pediatric medicine\, including patient care\, conducting healthcare research\, providing medical education\, addressing public health\, and implementing innovation. \nTarget Audience: MD/DO\, RN\, APRN\, Residents\, Fellows\, and other Trainees. \nGlobal Learning Objectives: \n\n\n\nIdentify state of the art\, evidence-based practices for prevention\, diagnosis and treatment in pediatric medicine\nAnalyze issues of diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and justice relevant to pediatric care\nCollaborate and communicate effectively with other health care professionals\, community members and families to advocate for the health care needs of children\nDescribe new scientific advances and trends in pediatric medicine that may be translatable and impact future patient care\nIdentify roles and responsibilities as part of a healthcare team that functions in value-driven\, ethical environments\n\n\nAccreditation Statement – Log into your ICEP account to view sessions\, check your credits and more! \n\n\n\n\nIn support of improving patient care\, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)\, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)\, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.\n\n\n\nCredit Designation Statements \nAmerican Medical Association (AMA) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nAmerican Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 ANCC contact hour. \nAmerican Board of Pediatrics (ABP) (for select sessions only — see individual session details) \nSuccessful completion of this CME activity\, which includes participation in the activity and individual assessment of and feedback to the learner\, enables the learner to earn up to 1 MOC points in the American Board of American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit learner completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABP MOC credit. \nParticipant completion information will be shared with the ABP through PARS. SUMMARY:Flourish Hour- April Session
DESCRIPTION:Date: April 30\, 2026 | noon \nTitle: Tiny Stories Project Writing Session \nSpeakers: Jessica Babal\, MD\, & Marissa LoCastro\, MD \nOverview:  \nThe project invites residents\, fellows\, and faculty to write 55-word stories describing a moment in residency that was humbling\, stressful\, relatable\, rewarding\, or challenging. There is special interest in having physician faculty provide stories to show residents that they are not alone in their difficult experiences.\n\nParticipants would have the option to have their stories anonymously displayed at an art gallery–style event in June\, designed to foster connection across UW SMPH departments. Many departments across UW SMPH are contributing this year\, and it would be wonderful to have our Pediatrics faculty well-represented! Or\, participants could keep their work for themselves\, no sharing is required.\n\nThe Tiny Story project lead\, Marissa Locastro\, is also looking for pediatric staff to pilot participation\, sharing about their humbling\, stressful\, relatable\, rewarding\, or challenging experiences as they entered the world of academic medicine. Staff would have the option for their work to be posted in a mini gallery within the department hallways\, or kept for personal use only\, no sharing required.\nWhere: Zoom \nFlourish Hour is accessible to all faculty\, staff\, and trainees and these sessions are created to support department members in flourishing in their careers. Sessions may include a variety of topics that relate to our department’s Strategic Priorities (DoP login required)\, as well as topics such as finding passion in your work\, how to utilize time management strategies\, and how to live a healthier life.  These sessions are recorded and can be accessed on the Department of Pediatrics Intranet. If you are interested in hosting\, teaching and/or suggesting a future professional development event\, please complete the Professional Development Activity Request Form.
