“The Global Health Track has greatly supplemented my residency training! We are exposed to many different educational opportunities as well as volunteer/advocacy efforts domestically and internationally. I have loved getting to learn various ways to adapt my practice to resource-limited settings as well as learn about ways to foster collaboration and partnerships with people worldwide as well as in our community. The Fundamentals of Global Health course each year offers protected learning time and opportunities to engage in active learning and networking with faculty. I was fortunate enough as a PGY2 to work through the UW undergraduate study abroad program and co-lead a course in Tanzania - traveling to Dar Es Salaam, Moshi, Arusha, & Zanzibar to learn more about healthcare systems and local culture as well as participate at a couple regional referral hospitals using urgent care approaches in patient care and teaching skills to provide knowledge exchange. As a PGY3, I am planning to rotate in Dehradun, India and participate in school health initiatives to improve preventative care for children and work at the local hospital and clinic to learn more about the pediatric care there. This track has impacted me and my career path in so many ways, I am thankful for participating and learning more about the health of all children.”
