Congratulations to Anna Huttenlocher, MD, who was awarded a UW2020 grant in the amount of $450,000, for her project entitled, “Engineering leukocytes generated from human iPS cells to treat human disease.” Support for this research was provided by the University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Education with funding from the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation. This 2-year WARF Discovery Initiative award, in conjunction with Co-Principal Investigator Igor Slukvin, MD, PhD, will use CRISPR gene editing to generate a panel of iPS cell lines that lead to the production of neutrophil and macrophage populations that are expert killers of microbial pathogens.
