The Division of Infectious Diseases cares for children with common, complex or potentially life-threatening infectious diseases and illnesses.
Research interests include international health, immunization efficacy, vaccine preventable disease epidemiology and policy, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, arbovirus infections and fungal infections.
- Infectious Diseases fellow J. Muse Davis, MD, received a $1,000 IDWeek 2015 Trainee Travel Grant to present an abstract at IDWeek, the annual scientific meeting focusing on infectious diseases held in San Diego, California, in October 2015.
- Sheryl Henderson, MD, PhD, received a $1,891 grant from the Friends of the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics for her project, "iPads to Enhance Health Education for Youth and Families in the UW HIV Comprehensive Care Clinic."
- Bruce Klein, MD, received a 5-year, $2.5 million R01 renewal award from the National Institutes of Health–National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH-NIAID) for his project, "Molecular pathogenesis of Blastomycosis."
In addition, two postdoctoral fellows in Dr. Klein’s lab received awards to support their research. Darin Wiesner, PhD, received a two-year $100,000 Hartwell Foundation Fellowship, and Nydiaris Hernandez-Santos, PhD, received a 13-month, $58,864 Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Individual Postdoctoral Fellowship (F32) from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH-NIAID).
Finally, thanks to a generous gift from Shirley Matchette, Dr. Klein was awarded the Shirley S. Matchette Professorship in Pediatric Medicine and Medical Microbiology & Immunology in 2015.
