SUMMARY:Pediatrics Grand Rounds-Sima Ramratnam\, MD\, MPH & Mary Ehlenbach\, MD
DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, April 10\, 2025 \nTime: 7:30-8:30 a.m. CST  via Zoom \nZoom Link \nTitle: Health Equity Rounds: Race in Clinical Algorithms – Breathing Deeper into Lung Function \nSession Overview: \nUntil recently\, standardized tools for clinical decision-making have utilized race-specific algorithms due to the widespread belief in biological differences between races. It is now recognized that many of the so-called biological effects of race are\, in fact\, the effects of environmental exposures and social and economic deprivation as a result of decades of structural inequities and racism. \nPulmonary function testing (PFT) in children plays an important role in evaluating a child with known or suspected respiratory disease. PFTs are one example of a race-based clinical algorithm. This session will critically appraise the role of race in pulmonary function testing and examine how to interpret spirometry in a race-conscious fashion. \nSpeakers: Sima Ramratnam\, MD\, MPH\, associate professor\, Division of Allergy\, Immunology\, & Rheumatology\, Department of Pediatrics\, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health \n \n  \nMary Ehlenbach\, MD\, associate professor\, director of Diversity\, Equity & Inclusion\, Division of Hospital Medicine & Complex Care\, Department of Pediatrics\, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health \n  \n \nPlease text the 6-letter code provided in the livestream lecture to 608-260-7097 for CME credit. \n\nSeries Overview: Pediatric Grand Rounds is a weekly multidisciplinary and interprofessional conference designed to improve a participant’s ability to practice pediatric medicine\, including patient care\, conducting healthcare research\, providing medical education\, addressing public health\, and implementing innovation. \nTarget Audience: MD/DO\, RN\, APRN\, Residents\, Fellows\, and other Trainees. \nGlobal Learning Objectives: \n\n\n\nIdentify state of the art\, evidence-based practices for prevention\, diagnosis and treatment in pediatric medicine\nAnalyze issues of diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and justice relevant to pediatric care\nCollaborate and communicate effectively with other health care professionals\, community members and families to advocate for the health care needs of children\nDescribe new scientific advances and trends in pediatric medicine that may be translatable and impact future patient care\nIdentify roles and responsibilities as part of a healthcare team that functions in value-driven\, ethical environments\n\n\nAccreditation Statement – Log into your ICEP account to view sessions\, check your credits and more! \n\n\n\n\nIn support of improving patient care\, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)\, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)\, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.\n\n\n\nCredit Designation Statements \nAmerican Medical Association (AMA) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nAmerican Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 ANCC contact hour. \nAmerican Board of Pediatrics (ABP) (for select sessions only — see individual session details) \nSuccessful completion of this CME activity\, which includes participation in the activity and individual assessment of and feedback to the learner\, enables the learner to earn up to 1 MOC points in the American Board of American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program.
