DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, May 9\, 2024 \nTime: 7:30-8:30 a.m. CST via Zoom \nZoom Link \nTitle: Caring for Children from the Amish and Mennonite Communities \nSession Overview: In this presentation we will discuss cultural considerations for providers\, social workers\, and others caring for pediatric patients and their families from Amish and traditional Mennonite (Plain) communities. In general\, Plain people do not limit accessing care on religious grounds\, however many face multiple barriers to traditional medical care and prefer complementary and alternative medicine when possible. To address these needs\, the Plain community has supported multiple programs to provide population-specific healthcare\, especially for those with complex medical needs or genetic disorders. While these programs are a resource for direct patient care\, they are also are a means for support for providers caring for Plain community members at larger institutions. \nSpeakers: Katie Williams\, MD\, clinical instructor\, Genetics & Metabolism\, Department of Pediatrics\, University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health \n \nMark Louden\, PhD\, professor of German\, director of Max Kade Institute for German-American Studies\,\nCollege of Letters and Science\, University of Wisconsin-Madison \n \n  \n  \nPlease text the 6-letter code provided in the livestream lecture to 608-260-7097 for CME credit. \n\nSeries Overview: Pediatric Grand Rounds is a weekly multidisciplinary and interprofessional conference designed to improve a participant’s ability to practice pediatric medicine\, including patient care\, conducting healthcare research\, providing medical education\, addressing public health\, and implementing innovation. \nTarget Audience: MD/DO\, RN\, APRN\, Residents\, Fellows\, and other Trainees. \nGlobal Learning Objectives: \n\n\n\nIdentify state of the art\, evidence-based practices for prevention\, diagnosis and treatment in pediatric medicine\nAnalyze issues of diversity\, equity\, inclusion\, and justice relevant to pediatric care\nCollaborate and communicate effectively with other health care professionals\, community members and families to advocate for the health care needs of children\nDescribe new scientific advances and trends in pediatric medicine that may be translatable and impact future patient care\nIdentify roles and responsibilities as part of a healthcare team that functions in value-driven\, ethical environments\n\n\nAccreditation Statement – Log into your ICEP account to view sessions\, check your credits and more! \n\n\n\n\nIn support of improving patient care\, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME)\, the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)\, and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.\n\n\n\nCredit Designation Statements \nAmerican Medical Association (AMA) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. \nAmerican Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) \nThe University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 ANCC contact hour. \nAmerican Board of Pediatrics (ABP) (for select sessions only — see individual session details) \nSuccessful completion of this CME activity\, which includes participation in the activity and individual assessment of and feedback to the learner\, enables the learner to earn up to 1 MOC points in the American Board of American Board of Pediatrics’ (ABP) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. SUMMARY:Lovefest: Senior Resident Recognition and Residency Awards
DESCRIPTION:Lovefest: Senior Resident Recognition and Residency Awards \nDate: Thursday\, June 6\, 2024 \nLocation: HSLC 1306 and via Zoom \n  \nPlease join us for the first annual Senior Resident Lovefest at the usual time of Pediatric Grand Rounds on Tuesday June 6th in person in HSLC 1306 or online. We will celebrate the graduating class with brief comments from the program about each resident\, a presentation of annual education awards to residents\, fellows\, and faculty\, and a tribute made by the senior class. We recognize that it is often challenging for faculty to attend the formal graduation banquet after hours and wanted faculty and residents to have a space for celebration and recognition during work hours. Senior residents are excused from clinical duties to attend the session and we hope that many faculty are able to join to help us celebrate. We’re very excited about this lead-in to the formal graduation banquet and are looking forward seeing many of you there! \n  \nIf you have questions\, please email event lead\, Reva Finkelman at rfinkelman@wisc.edu \n  \n  \n  \n  \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, July 25\, 2024 \nTime: 7:30-8:30 a.m. CST via Zoom \nZoom Link \nTitle: Single Cell Analysis Provides Insights into Human Allograft Rejection \nSession Overview:  \nRejection remains the number one cause of allograft failure\, largely because we lack understanding of basic mechanisms underlying allograft rejection.  We applied single cell genomics approaches to interrogate the transcriptomes of cells within the rejecting kidney and urine.  A few highlights of our work include: (i) gene expression of clonally expanded CD8+ T cells (CD8EXP) driving rejection depends upon the patient’s immunosuppression; (ii) transcriptomic analysis of CD8EXP suggests therapeutic targets for anti-rejection treatment; (iii) the urine contains clonally identical CD8EXP with similar gene expression compared to the biopsy.  This approach provides a platform that can be tailored to each patient where therapeutic targets can be rationally defined\, mechanistically based\, and exploited. \nSpeaker: David Hildeman\, PhD\, professor\, UC Department of Pediatrics\nCincinnati Children’s Hospital \n  \n \n  \n  \nPlease text the 6-letter code provided in the livestream lecture to 608-260-7097 for CME credit.
