SUMMARY:Medical Education Scholars Day - February 2023
DESCRIPTION:Medical Education Scholars in Pediatrics Day 2023 \nDate: Thursday\, February 16\, 2023 I 9:00-11:00 a.m. I ILC 3110 A & C \nWorkshop: Disseminate Scholarship of Teaching: How to Publish a Teaching Tool or Curriculum Workshop \n*This is an in-person only event. \nSpeaker: Adam Wolfe\, MD\, PhD – associate professor of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology\, assistant dean of education\, associate program director\, pediatric residency program\, Baylor College of Medicine – The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio \nLearning Objectives: \n\nDescribe the quality standards for scholarship of teaching that can be used to guide a successful scholarly project and publication\nAnalyze the available venues for publishing education materials\, using MedEdPORTAL as a reference example\nOutline a plan for implementing\, evaluating\, revising\, and publishing an individual’s education materials\n\nWorkshop Description: Publication continues to be the primary hallmark of scholarship.  Clinician-educators engage in systematic inquiry that critiques\, improves and enhances teaching and learning (i.e. scholarship of teaching). Our scholarly products may include curricula\, learning modules\, assessment tools\, etc. As clinician-educators and teachers\, we must be knowledgeable about the opportunities and available venues for peer-reviewed publication of our scholarly products. This hands-on workshop begins with an overview of Glassick’s Standards for scholarship of teaching. The individual participants will outline an educational project\, specifically the implementation of a teaching tool or curriculum. They will then discuss the process of design\, implementation\, evaluation\, revision\, and ultimately publication of their scholarly products. We will use the process of publishing at MedEdPortal.org as an example\, and review other venues for publishing education materials. We will conclude the workshop with a debrief and opportunity for participants to share their own tools and experiences in publishing their education materials. Participants will leave the workshop with a completed outline of a planned project for ultimate publication\, and paper + digital materials detailing additional resources to guide the engagement of scholarship of teaching\, and publishing their products. Following this workshop at 11:00 will be a provided lunch. \nRegister Today! \nMESP is open to all members of the Department of Pediatrics. Please join the Zoom Link below and email Reva Finkelman\, Professional Development Manager\, at rfinkelman@wisc.edu if you would like to be added as a MESP member. You do not need to be a member to attend.
