DESCRIPTION:Date: Thursday\, February 19\, 2026 \nTime: 7:30-8:30 a.m. CT   via Zoom \nZoom Link \nTitle: The Norman Fost Lecture on Skepticism and Critical Thinking: The Promise and Perils of Newborn Sequencing \nSession Overview: I will offer an ethical analysis of newborn screening as a public health screening program.  I begin with a brief history of newborn screening which begins with Bob Guthrie developing the bacterial inhibition assay to test for phenylketonuria and the filter paper on which to collect it. Medical-legal partnerships (MLPs) are collaborative care models designed to partner lawyers with front-line healthcare workers to meaningfully address root-causes behind these interwoven issues. In this lecture\, we will introduce our inter-professional audience to the MLP model and summarize the evidence base for MLP in pediatric medicine.
