Program Highlights

RELATIONSHIPS: Our medium-sized class of 15 residents allows for development of long-lasting relationships and class camaraderie. Additionally, this affords an opportunity for personalized development of close faculty-resident relationships.

HIGH-QUALITY EDUCATION: Our program is fully accredited by the ACGME, with program directors who are leaders in education nationally.

COMPLEX CARE: We have a $9.45M CMS award-funded Complex Care Program that provides longitudinal comprehensive care to patients with multiple medical conditions. Residents care for these patients in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

DIVERSITY: We attract patients from northern Illinois, Minnesota, rural Wisconsin (including Amish/Mennonite communities) and Milwaukee, providing a diverse community of patients. Within Madison itself, we care for populations of various socioeconomic backgrounds and ethnicities, including Hmong and Hispanic/Latino.

SUBSPECIALTIES: One of the key features of our program is that each resident rotates through all subspecialty services as both a primary team member and a consultant.

ADVOCACY: Our program is dedicated to advocacy for children outside of the hospital and we have numerous opportunities for resident involvement. Experiences range from working with local NGOs, to partnering with Madison schools, to petitioning for legislation at the state capitol.

RESEARCH: Being affiliated with an undergraduate facility, medical school, and school of public health, there is a plethora of grant-funded research with multiple opportunities for resident participation.

GLOBAL HEALTH: We have a well-established global health track affiliated with the University of Wisconsin Global Health Institute and multiple institutions around the world! We pride ourselves on our comprehensive, multidisciplinary education to prepare residents to incorporate global health into their careers.

MADISON: Madison is a beautifully vibrant city with the undergraduate campus of the University of Wisconsin, multiple large lakes, bike trails throughout, and enough restaurants to place us in the top five cities for most restaurants per capita in U.S.!
