Fost, Greer Retire

The Department of Pediatrics honors Norman Fost, MD, MPH, and Frank Greer, MD, who retired  in 2014.
 

Norman Fost, MD, MPH

Dr. Fost is a bioethics trailblazer and a departmental, institutional, and national leader. He directed the Department of Pediatrics residency program for 20 years, founded and led the University of Wisconsin Bioethics program for over 30 years, chaired the University of Wisconsin Institutional Review Board for 31 years, and chaired the UW Hospital and Clinics ethics committee for over 30 years.

He served on President Clinton's health care task force in the 1990s, and has sat on committees at the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration.

In 2003, Dr. Fost received the American Academy of Pediatrics' William G. Bartholome Award for Excellence in Ethics, and in 2006, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Human Research Protection from the U.S. Dept of Health and Human Services' Office of Human Research Protection and the Health Improvement Institute. He was inducted into the Johns Hopkins University Society of Scholars in 2011.

Frank Greer, MD

Dr. Greer is a neonatologist and infant nutrition expert. He served on, and later chaired, the American Academy of Pediatrics' (AAP) Committee on Nutrition, and has authored several AAP policy statements on pediatric nutrition. He has also served on the Food and Drug Administration's Subcommittee on Infant Formula since 2002, and on the FDA's Pediatric Advisory Board since 2010.

In addition, he served on the editorial board of the Journal of Nutrition and Pediatrics, and most recently chaired the editorial board of AAP Pediatric News.
