Division Highlights - Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Disease cares for children with common, complex, or potentially life-threatening infectious diseases and illnesses.

Research interests include international health, immunization efficacy, vaccine preventable disease epidemiology and policy, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and fungal infections.

2013 Highlights

  • In honor of his contributions to their education and future careers, the UW School of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) graduating class of 2013 selected James Conway, MD, as an Investing Marshal for this year’s Recognition Ceremony.
In addition, fourth-year SMPH medical students selected Dr. Conway to receive the Wisconsin Medical Alumni Association's Clinical Science Teaching Award.
  • Bruce Klein, MD, received a competitive renewal of his National Institutes of Health–National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIH-NIAID) R01 grant, “Mechanisms of Antifungal Vaccine Immunity,” which is now entering its 15th year.
In addition, Dr. Klein received a $413,875 NIH-NIAID R21 grant for his project, “Tracking Anti-Fungal CD4+ T Cells In Vivo,” and a $15,000 University of Wisconsin Graduate School Fall Competition Award for his project, “Targeting Hybrid Histidine Kinase for Broad Spectrum Antifungal Therapy.”
Finally, Dr. Klein was the first recipient of the Shirley S. Matchette Professorship.
