The UW-developed Residency Rater for Pediatrics app lets fourth-year medical students nationwide evaluate pediatrics residency programs—including our own—from their smartphones.
The free app is available for both the iPhone and Android platforms. Students select and rate residency programs based on customizable criteria such as work environment, curriculum, clinical interests, residents, faculty, and technology.
They can also record their own personal impressions of a program’s strengths. For example, at UW, those might include our emphasis on simulation training, unique half-day educational conferences, and flexibility to support residents’ career development.
Prospective residents interviewing here have commented on the tool’s value, said residency director John Frohna, MD. “It’s a way technology can assist them as they pursue their educational needs,” he said. “It also helps them think about things that are important in selecting a residency program, but that they might not have thought of otherwise.”
Residency Rater was first developed at the UW Department of Family Medicine, and customized for the Department of Pediatrics.
