Division Highlights - Critical Care

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine delivers comprehensive, state-of-the-art care to critically ill children admitted to American Family Children’s Hospital.

Our scholarly endeavors include advocacy, medical education, clinical and basic science research, and global health.

2011 Highlights

  • Juan Boriosi, MD, received over $110,000 from Isomark, LLC, for his 1-year trial, “Changes in 13C/12C Delta Value in Breath as a Biomarker of Systemic Inflammatory Response Syndrome in Mechanically Ventilated Pediatric and Adult Patients.”
  • Tom Brazelton, MD, MPH, received the 2011 Todd Varness Resident Teaching Award.
  • Pelin Cengiz, MD, was named one of the 2011 UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) KL2 scholars. This award provides 75% protected research time plus $25,000/year to support her research project, “Role of Na+/H+ Exchanger Isoform 1 (NHE-1) in Hippocampal Astrocytes After Neonatal Hypoxia and Ischemia.”
  • Travis Schmit, PhD, a research associate in the lab of Michael Wilhelm, MD, received a $45,000 postdoctoral fellowship from the FRAXA Research Foundation for his project, “The Role of JNK in FMRP Regulated Translation in Fragile X Syndrome.”
  • Michael Wilhelm, MD, was named as one of the 2011 UW Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (ICTR) KL2 scholars. This award provides 75% protected research time plus $25,000/year to support his research project, “Regulation of Dendritic APP translation by the JNK Pathway in Fragile X Syndrome.”
