Our research aims to advance science that can be rapidly applied to the understanding, treatment and prevention of pediatric disease.

Specific interests include rhinovirus infection and childhood asthma interactions; improving diet and physical fitness in children; causes and consequences of iron deficiency in infancy; cystic fibrosis neonatal screening; and molecular pathogenesis of blastomycosis.

2010 Highlights

  • Our department had a 2% increase in grant submissions and a 13% increase in grant funding in 2010.

  • 45 investigators—a full third of our faculty—had competitive extramural funding, an 18% increase from 2009.
