Division Highlights - Infectious Disease

The Division of Infectious Disease cares for children with common, complex, or potentially life-threatening infectious diseases and illnesses.

Research interests include international health, immunization efficacy, vaccine preventable disease epidemiology and policy, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and fungal infections.

2010 Highlights

  • Bruce Klein, MD, was elected into the American Pediatrics Society, and was also elected vice chair (2013) and chair (2015) of the new Gordon Research Conference on Fungal Immunology.

Dr. Klein was also awarded $750,000 annually for three years as co-investigator of “Discovery of Natural Product-Based Drugs From Bacterial Symbionts of Insects,” a new NIH RC4 Challenge Grant. The project is part of a drug discovery initiative spawned by the Wisconsin Center for Infectious Disease.
  • Ellen Wald, MD, was awarded $355,569 over three years from the Thrasher Research Fund to study short-course versus long-course antibiotics for the treatment of acute bacterial sinusitis in children. Greg DeMuri, MD, is the study’s co-investigator.
