Division Highlights - Gastroenterology & Nutrition

2007 - 2008 Highlights

Marcy Weidkamp, NP, joins the division

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology & Nutrition evaluates and treats children with a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatologic disorders.

Two physicians, three nurse practitioners, two registered nurses, and a registered pediatric dietician manage complex and chronic gastrointestinal disease at a specialized outpatient clinic. The team also offers care at the American Family Children’s Hospital and at an outreach center.

Clinical services include:

  • Evaluation and treatment of gastroesophageal reflux, peptic ulcers, Crohn's disease, colitis, constipation and diarrhea, and food allergies;
  • Management of liver disease, including hepatitis (B, C and autoimmune), alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, and liver transplantation consultation; and
  • Nutritional support and services, including gastrostomy feeding tubes and support for underweight infants and children.

To improve the health and quality of life of children with gastrointestinal disorders, we also conduct clinical research in inflammatory bowel disease, celiac disease, and gastroesophageal reflux.
