Mission Statement
To provide integrated and conjoint training in adult and pediatric allergy and immunology that includes both research and clinical medicine that will result in improved patient care and the development of future clinicians and academicians. In addition, to provide outstanding evaluation and care of children with a variety of rheumatologic diseases.
Research Statement
The goals of the research activities in allergy, immunology and rheumatology are as follows:
- To identify mechanisms by which viral respiratory infections are involved in both the onset and exacerbation of asthma
- To evaluate T regulatory cell function in relationship to atopic diseases and asthma
- To evaluate mechanisms by which inflammatory cells migrate to sites of tissue inflammation
- To evaluate new and existing therapies in asthma through participation in asthma clinical research networks
- To establish how gene by environment interactions participate in the expression of various allergic diseases and asthma
