For the past two decades my research interests have been devoted to understanding the genetic basis of scoliosis and congenital vertebral malformations (CVM). Previous funded research in scoliosis has led to the discovery of mutations in PAX1, DLL3 and T(Brachyury) in patients with CVM.
My collaborators and I have also localized a region on chromosome 12p associated with idiopathic scoliosis which will lead to further discovery of genes associated with idiopathic scoliosis.
An important goal of this research is to identify genetic and environmental factors which can lead to prevention and/or improved therapeutic treatment modalities for scoliosis.
