Project Staff

Dipesh Navsaria, MPH, MSLIS, MD

Dipesh Navsaria, MPH, MSLIS, MD, is a community pediatrician and assistant professor of pediatrics at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. As director of the Pediatric Early Literacy Projects (which include Reach Out and Read and the American Family Children’s Hospital Inpatient Reading Library), he has a deep interest in child advocacy. With training as a children’s librarian, early literacy promotion is his passion. Naturally, he loves reading with his own children.

Sheila Muehlenbruch

Sheila Muehlenbruch joined the University of Wisconsin Department of Pediatrics in 2006 and became involved in the Early Literacy Projects in 2008. She provides support to the Reach Out and Read pediatric clinic sites, and helped set up the AFCH Inpatient Reading Library in 2009. Sheila grew up with a love of reading and passed that love on to her two now-grown daughters. One of her favorite volunteer activities was being a reading tutor at a local elementary school.

Nan Peterson, RN, MS

Nan Peterson, RN, MS, is a former pediatric intensive care nurse who now manages the AFCH Child Health Advocacy Center. She is a voracious reader, and bookreading was a favorite daily activity when she was raising her two sons

Nan Peterson, RN, MS

Ruth Sias, MLS, is the youth services librarian at the South Branch of the Madison Public Library. She began her library career at the age of 14 as a shelving page. Ruth provides assistance with training volunteer readers and with story time at the AFCH Outpatient Clinic, and she is helping to develop the inpatient library. In her spare time, Ruth enjoys being with her husband and daughter, knits passionately, and, of course, reads.

Wendy Hellwig

Students from the UW School of Library and Information Studies serve as volunteer professional resources. Currently led by Wendy Hellwig, the SLIS student is in charge of collection development, review of donations, and expansion of our initiatives in new and innovative ways. Combining real-life learning with service, she brings a wealth of knowledge, energy, and ambition to the programs.

Wendy Hellwig

Emily Minerath is a first-year student at SLIS interested in children's services in public libraries. When not doing schoolwork, she loves baking, knitting, and reading pretty much anything. As a child, she got very upset when her library books had to be given back.
