Division Highlights - Infectious Diseases
The Division of Infectious Disease cares for children with common, complex, or potentially life-threatening infectious diseases and illnesses.
Research interests include international health, immunization efficacy, vaccine preventable disease epidemiology and policy, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and fungal infections.
- The division received ACGME approval for a new fellowship training program in pediatric infectious disease. The first fellow will begin in July 2013.
- James Conway, MD, received the UW Health Physician Excellence Award for Clinical Education. He was also selected as the guest commencement speaker by the UW School of Medicine and Public Health’s class of 2012.
- Bruce Klein, MD, received two new grants from the National Institutes of Health: a 5-year, $2.8 million R01 grant for his project, “Mechanisms of Anti-Fungal Vaccine Immunity”, and a 2-year, $415,000 R21 grant for his project “Tracking Anti-Fungal CD4+ T cells In Vivo.”
- Bruce Klein, MD, served as vice chair and chair-elect of the Immunology of Fungal Infections Gordon Research Conference.
- Ellen Wald, MD, received a 2-year, $415,000 R21 grant from the National Institutes of Health-Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NIH-NICHD) for her project, “An Interactive Web-Based Intervention to Achieve Healthy Weight in Young Children.”
- Ellen Wald, MD, is the principal investigator on an American Family Children’s Hospital Youth Health Transition Grant. Last year, that grant supported the "Successful Youth Transition into Adult Healthcare Summit”, which welcomed visiting professor and keynote speaker Albert Hergenroeder, MD.
